Chat Transcript: Jeff Green

June 14, 2001
9:34 AM EDT (1334 GMT)

Nascar_Host: Welcome to NASCAR.com's chat with Jeff Green!

Jeff Green: I would just like to say welcome to everyone! It is stormy in Charlotte today, but a good one before we go racing tomorrow. I just want to welcome you all and hope I can answer your questions.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [dj mic24] Jeff, Why didn't NASCAR give you any points for the Winston Cup race at Michigan?

 Get Jeff Green gear!

Jeff Green: I understand they did. We didn't get into Dover, because of the rain out.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [Dupont] What are your thoughts going into Kentucky this weekend?

Jeff Green: I am looking forward to it. I am looking forward to being able to go to a brand new racetrack for one thing. Going to your home state is just a great thing and being able to win there would be a great thing, not that we don't want to win every week.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [foo_monkey] JEFF: As an AOL employee, I'm very excited to have you driving the #30 AOL car. Will there be any #30/AOL merchandise available?

Jeff Green: Actually there is a little on my Busch trailer. They have some t-shirts and hats, but I know they are working on some more stuff. So, if you are at a Busch race go by that trailer and check it out.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [spec] When is your next Cup race?

Jeff Green: My next race is Chicago. We tested there 2 weeks ago yesterday, so it won't be long now.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [Ultimate DaleJrFan] Hi Jeff, what is it like being a teammate with Kevin Harvick on some Sunday's and then his competitor in the Bush Series? Is it easy? Thanks.

Jeff Green: Yeah it is pretty easy. We are both grown-ups and adults. We get along pretty well and we know it is a business and we treat it that way. We are going to race each other as hard on Sundays as on Saturdays. We need to work as a team, because that is what the team philosophy is all about.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [calendargirl] Do you think the Busch Series should have a race similar to "The Winston?"

Jeff Green: I think so. That would be a great thing. The Busch guys and the drivers race as hard as the Cup guys do. To put all the winners in one race would be really exciting and a lot of fun. They haven't done that yet but maybe sometime soon they will. I hope so.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [joni1030] Hi Jeff. What are your thoughts on running one of the seven Looney Tunes cars at the race in Richmond in September? Thanks and I hope you win your second Busch Championship.

Jeff Green: I think any time you put an added incentive on any race or make a fan look at your car it gains you fans. I am thankful for RCR and AOL to run that car a under the light at Richmond it is going to be really exciting. You can't get much better then that.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [F16Viper68] What's it like racing for Richard Childress?

Jeff Green: I am kind of stunned when I am with Richard with all the history. He has accomplished so much more than any one of us will and to be part of that is great. I am with a great Busch team too. One of these days I will be sitting on the porch talking about racing for RCR and that is pretty exciting for me.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [CrashWaltrip] Jeff, if you are offered the RCR ride next year, will you run both Busch and Cup? I read that you signed on for two more years with Nesquik.

Jeff Green: We haven't signed anything yet. ppc and Nestle are working on something for the next few years, so I don't have anything yet. I like that team a lot, but if the AOL car comes my way it is something I will have to look at, because to be able to race with Richard you have to look at something like that right now. I am just looking to win at Kentucky and win another championship.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [Q] If you could design your own paint scheme on the Nesquik car, what would you decide?

Jeff Green: I really like the yellow. My grandmother likes it, because she can pick it out on the TV. I really like the car right now, so I don't know if I would change anything on it.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [crzydrvr] Jeff, How do you motivate your crew before race time?

Jeff Green: That is not too hard. They are motivated on the air they breathe. That is what makes the team as good as it is. We overcome our hardships and we do that better than anyone I know....

Nascar_Host: Question from: [Ruddfan] Jeff, you have had experience in Winston Cup. Do you think Ray may have brought Casey Atwood up a little early?

Jeff Green: I don't know. Casey is a great little driver. He doesn't have as much experience as others do, but Jeff Gordon didn't have much experience either. With the new team it is putting pressure on Casey -- but by no means is he a dummy. He is a good race driver and he has his youth on his side.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [dakota] Jeff, What did you do differently (if anything) on Sunday to prepare for the Cup race versus your normal pre Busch race routine? PS -- It was great to see you in a Chevy!!

Jeff Green: I don't do anything different. It would depend on what the race is. The Michigan race was not that long of a race. I always drink a lot of water during the race and I think that is what keeps me rolling.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [Guest72858] who are you rooting for to win the NBA Championship, Lakers or Sixers?

Chat Transcript: Jeff Green

Jeff Green: I like the Sixers, because they are someone different. I think even in racing people want to see someone different win. My guys, the Hornets didn't make it, so for who is left, I like the Sixers.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [jimmy] Jeff, just wondering if you have any reservations about moving up to cup?

Jeff Green: I would love to for the right opportunity. My idea of that is to have a team like I have now where we can compete every week to win. If that comes along then yeah I would love to move up.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [joni1030] Hi Jeff. Last year you won the Busch championship in a Chevy. This year you are driving a Ford. Can you tell me what the difference is between the Chevy's and the Fords? Thanks and I hope you win your second Championship in a row.

Jeff Green: Thanks for that! There is not a lot of difference for the driver. I am still looking for the same feel. It has a little less drag, which means we should be faster in the race.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [JeffGfan] Hey Jeff! What track is your favorite and what track do you feel you are best at?

Jeff Green: I don't know--I would say Bristol is my favorite. I run well there, but have not won - it goes back to the short track that I came up on, so I like that. The track I am best at I don't know. I hope this week it is Kentucky. It really depends on the car, so I would just say all of them---we always seem to be competitive.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [joni1030] Hi Jeff. We are about halfway done with the Busch Series this year. So far Kevin Harvick has the points lead. Do you think you will be able to catch him in the points soon? Thanks and I hope you do catch him in the points and win your 2nd championship.

Jeff Green: I hope we can! Every time we do catch him we seem to go back down again. Hopefully I will go ahead of him in Homestead and win every week. We feel that we can be top-5 and that is what counts. After that, it depends on what everyone else does. Hopefully we will stay in the top of every race and we can win us another championship.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [JeffGfan] Jeff, if you could have another pit crew whose crew would it be? Can't pick your own!!!

Jeff Green: It would be Harvick's crew, because that is my crew on Sunday. They do a great job every Saturday. I think they are one of the best up there with my race team since I have worked with them in the past I think it would be the right choice for me.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [Americaonline] Thanks for signing my card at the NASCAR.com truck on Sunday; will you do that again in Indy?

Jeff Green] Yeah! That is the AOL trailer. We will do that at every race so we should have 5 more shots at doing that.

Nascar_Host: Question from: [nascarfranny] Other than driving, what would you say is your greatest contribution to your team?

Jeff Green: I don't know--that is a good one. I would say support. We all get along very well. We are all good friends and I try to be there for them if they ever need me in any way other then what we do every day.

Nascar_Host1] That's all the time Jeff has for us this evening. Thanks Jeff! What are your final thoughts?

Jeff Green: We really appreciate it. I hope I answered all you questions correctly and I thank you for the fan support, not only for me, but also for all the drivers. With out you we couldn't do this. Thanks!
