AVONDALE, Ariz. - Winston Cup regular Stacy Compton scored the Craftsman Truck Series pole for the Chevy Silverado 150 at Phoenix International Raceway.

Moonlighting Compton scores Truck pole

Compton toured the flat, one-mile track in 127.700 mph. Compton has made three Craftsman Truck Series with Melling Racing, his Winston Cup team, and has three top-10 finishes. The pole is Compton’s first since 1999 when he won six poles as a Craftsman Truck Series regular.

Craftsman Truck Series points leader Jack Sprague qualified second at 127.687. Sprague, bidding for his third Craftsman Truck Series title, leads Joe Ruttman by 97 points with two races to go. Ruttman, winner of this race a year ago, struggled in qualifying -- he will start 15th on Friday.

The Chevy Silverado 150 gets under way at 6:30 p.m. ET on Friday.
