NO. 12 FUTURE STILL UNDECIDED
While Silly Season participants are dwindling down, there are still a few teams left where speculation remains.
One of the hotter topics is the future of the No. 12 Penske Racing Ford. Since Jeremy Mayfield was released last month, Mike Wallace has done an admirable job through the last four races. However, even though he is coming off a second-place performance at Phoenix last Sunday, he still doesn't know what lies ahead for him.
"We have had no talks about next year," Wallace said. "I would like to see something by next week, but Roger Penske and Penske Racing in general has a lot going on. He probably has a business plan and when he's ready to tell us what's going on-- he will. Until then, we're just going to keep on racing."
Adding to the mix are reports that Jimmy Spencer may still be a candidate for the ride. He has already announced he will be leaving his Haas Carter Motorsports No. 26 Ford at the end of the year. There have also been discussions that he will end up at Chip Ganassi Racing in a Dodge. However, Spencer has mentioned that he may be back in a Ford next year.
Stay tuned.
ROBINSON TESTS AT HOMESTEAD
Shawna Robinson tested at Homestead Speedway this past week in hopes of getting back behind the wheel of a Winston Cup car. She drove a Pontiac for a possibly newly forming team out of Florida.
Robinson has attempted to qualify for four Winston Cup races, but has only made one of them-- the June event at Michigan. She started 32nd and finished 34th.
