Greg Biffle had a signature season with Roush Racing in the Busch Series; but across the board in the rest of the operation, the results ranged from the disarray of the Craftsman Truck teams to the relatively dismal performance of the Winston Cup teams.
The first major change at Roush apparently has come in the Busch Series as Tommy Morgan has been released as the crew chief for Jeff Burton’s part-time No. 9 Ford. The change was made after Burton won once in 11 starts, with five top-fives and nine top-10 finishes.
Those stats paled in comparison to 2000, when Burton and Morgan won four times in 14 starts, with 11 top-fives. The team is in the process of seeking a replacement.
IN OTHER CREW CHIEF NEWS...
Proving that winning isn’t everything, word is that Ultra Motorsports, which won 12 of 24 races in the Craftsman Truck Series this year, has released Ted Musgrave’s crew chief Fred Wanke. Ultra, which was reportedly seeking sponsorship for its Winston Cup team before it announced its merger with Evernham Motorsports, also may have released several other crewmen.

Meanwhile, Ricky Viers, who led Elton Sawyer to a fifth-place season in the Busch Series, will assume the crew chief’s role at Richard Childress Racing for one of RCR’s two teams -- either Johnny Sauter's No. 2 or Jeff Green's and Jay Sauter's No. 21.
Jason Ratcliff, who most recently was with Jamie McMurray at Brewco Motorsports, is reported to be in as the other crew chief.
