DuPont CEO named grand marshal for Daytona 500

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Charles O. Holliday, Jr.,
chairman and CEO of DuPont, will serve as the Grand
Marshal for the 44th annual Daytona 500 on Feb. 17 and give the command
to start engines for the “Great American Race.”
DuPont will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2002 and will have a
celebratory paint scheme on the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet driven by Jeff Gordon during Speedweeks.
Gordon, the 2001 Winston Cup champion and a two-time Daytona 500 champion, will drive the
anniversary car in the Budweiser Shootout, the Gatorade 125's and the
Daytona 500.
“What better way for DuPont to celebrate its anniversary than by giving
the command to start engines in the Daytona 500,” said Speedway
President John Graham. “DuPont has been a strong supporter in
motorsports not only with its sponsorship of the No. 24 Chevrolet of
Jeff Gordon, but also as a sponsor of Daytona USA.”

Holliday, a native of Tennessee and a graduate of the University of
Tennessee, joined DuPont in 1970 and was named the company’s chief
executive in 1998. He has been instrumental in practically every area of
DuPont business including manufacturing, marketing, finance and
planning.
