Nobody’s talking about it, but a currently active construction site adjacent to the entrance to Daytona USA, the interactive motorsports attraction located outside Turn 4 of Daytona International Speedway, has all the potential earmarks of the rumored “Dale Earnhardt Memorial” that may be unveiled during Speedweeks 2002.

A circular set of footers about eight feet in diameter are located within the center of the construction zone and might be the pedestal for a rumored statue of Earnhardt.
The seven-time Winston Cup champion lost his life on the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500 and was the career victories leader at the “World Center of Racing,” with 34 trips to Victory Lane in a variety of stock car events.
The most interesting aspect of the site -- located on the opposite side of the attraction's entrance from a fountain and memorial statue to NASCAR founder William H.G. France and his wife, Anne -- would be if the current low level barriers that surround it are raised or made more impenetrable as the project continues.
