Bill Marx of Sporting News Wire Service weighs in with his top 10:
| Pos. | Driver | Need to know ... |
|---|---|---|
| 1. | Carl Edwards | Edwards bumps Kyle Busch to No. 2. |
| 2. | Kyle Busch | Hey, Johnson and Gordon: Busch is slumping with back-to-back second-place finishes. |
| 3. | Kevin Harvick | If you first must put together a streak of top-10 finishes before you win, that is what Harvick is doing. |
| 4. | Tony Stewart | Toss out Indy, which I have, and Stewart also has been hanging out in the top 10 a lot lately. |
| 5. | Jimmie Johnson | Has cooled in the past two weeks but is still a threat. |
| 6. | Matt Kenseth | Kenseth's 14th top-10 trails only Busch (18) and Edwards (16). |
| 7. | David Ragan | Starts 43rd in a backup car and finishes 10th. Twelve points out of the top 12 with two races to go. |
| 8. | Dale Earnhardt Jr. | Paid dearly for his huge mistake on the first lap. He was one lucky dog from a top-10 finish, but it never happened. |
| 9. | Denny Hamlin | Hamlin continues his pattern of getting a top-10 in every other race. He also finished third for the fifth time this year. |
| 10. | Jamie McMurray | The fifth Beatle in the Roush Fenway Racing band has put together some nice finishes the past five races. |
