Gary DeHart, a native of High Point, N.C., expected in 2001 to return to the championship form he's known twice before with Terry Labonte. DeHart, 52, who is in his second stint with Hendrick Motorsports, was part of the Hagan Racing team that gave Labonte his first title. The veteran mechanic first worked as a crew chief in 1990 at Hendrick Motorsports and diversified into his own chassis and consulting business at the end of 1997, when he left in the middle of the season.
