Wisconsin native Jimmy Fennig anticipated getting back to the role of Winston Cup championship contender with long-time associate Mark Martin in 2001. Fennig, a hard-core racer who learned his craft in the intensely competitive upper Midwest stock car circuits, worked for a time with NASCAR legend Bobby Allison at Stavola Brothers Racing, where he reinforced many of the traits he and Martin have used to great effect more recently.
