Larry Carter stepped into the unenviable task of holding his first crew chief's position in the glaring spotlight of Darrell Waltrip's 2000 "Victory Tour" into retirement. While Waltrip's 29-race season was largely undistinguished, it was not for lack of effort on Carter's part, who was seen as a good chassis man and communicator. In 2001, Carter has the opportunity to work with another chassis savant, Todd Bodine, and their desire to return the No. 66 Haas/Carter Motorsports to respectability may pay off.
