Royce McGee prepared in 2000 for his transition into one of the most pressure filled crew chief's positions in Winston Cup racing by continuing his schooling under veteran mechanic Larry McReynolds. In 2001, McGee will try to do what the man who won three Daytona 500s could not, guide driver Mike Skinner to Victory Lane for team owner Richard Childress. McGee, who got his start in short track racing and sports cars in his native Jacksonville, Fla., has been a student of the sport for years and will finally get a chance to put it into practice this season.
