David Green, one of three Owensboro, Ky., brothers competing in the Busch Series, had a disappointing campaign in his full-time return to the series for the first time in three years in 2000. Driving for Cicci-Welliver Racing, he started all 32 races but only posted two top-5 and 11 top-10 finishes.
Green, the 1994 Busch Series champion who was second in the 1996 title chase, led six races for a total of 88 laps but his best finish was a second at Pikes Peak International Raceway. Green, who has five career Busch Series victories, made his 200th career start at Bristol in August. His best start of the season was a second at Nazareth.
Green, who attempted a Winston Cup career but was unsuccessful after driving for several owners, was runner-up for Winston Cup Rookie of the Year honors in 1997. Green's 18 career Busch Series poles puts the 1979 WKA national champion fourth on the all-time list. With his brother, Jeff's 2000 BS championship, the pair is the first set of brothers to achieve that accomplishment.
