Elton Sawyer is the indefatigable man in the Busch Series, as he started all 32 races in the No. 98 Akins Motorsports Ford to finish the season with a string of 133 consecutive starts and 356 total races. The veteran might've slid back to sixth in the points after finishing fifth in 1999, but he put up solid numbers is his 12th full season with five top-5s and 14 top-10 finishes.
Sawyer finished a season best second at both Nazareth and Memphis. His best starts came with thirds at Nazareth and Darlington and he led three times for nine laps. Sawyer was unable to put a dent in the advantage held by the top-5 in the standings despite putting together a string of eight top-10 finishes midway through the season.
Sawyer won 82 races and three straight Late Model Stock Car championships from 1983-85 at Langley Speedway in Hampton, Va. He was the 1984-85 NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Mid-Atlantic Region champion before embarking on the Busch Series career he still maintains.
