Jeff Burton had the kind of limited season in 2000 that would make Busch Series regulars wish the Winston Cup driver would stay home more often. The South Boston, Va., native started 14 races and finished a creditable 29th in the point standings, but more impressively he won four times and posted 11 top-5 and 13 top-10 finishes in his No. 9 Ford fielded by Cup owner Jack Roush.

Burton equaled his career Busch Series victory total from when he was a series regular from 1988-93 in 2000 and now has 14 career victories. His only non-top-10 finish, was a 41st at Richmond after his car's engine blew. Crew chief Tommy Morgan engineered an effective package that led the most laps a series best eight times including 197 of 250 laps at the second Richmond event.

Burton's primary responsibility continues to be his Roush Racing ride in the Winston Cup Series, where he finished third in 2000, but he will continue his limited Busch program in 2001. Burton, the younger brother of Winston Cup driver Ward Burton, was a two-time Virginia state karting champion and the 1994 Winston Cup Rookie of the Year.
