Jeff Purvis struggled early in his new situation in 2000 with Joe Gibbs Racing, but by the end of the season had scored the best turnaround in the series to end up 11th in the point standings after starting 29 races in his fourth full season in the series. Purvis struggled early, recording all four DNFs in the first half of the season and looked ahead to switching from Gibbs' No. 4 Pontiacs to his No. 18 cars in 2001.
He came back to notch seven of his 11 top-10 finishes in the second half of the season. He scored five top-10 finishes during a string of seven races, including three second place finishes and had the year's best turnaround, going from 24th place after race No. 18 to 11th in the final point standings. He added four top-5s to his log.
Purvis began racing in 1973 and has more than 350 wins on both dirt and asphalt. He won the 1984 World Series of Dirt and captured NDRA national championships in 1984-85. He has two career Busch Series wins, which came in 1996 and eight career ARCA superspeedway wins, which ties him for second all-time in that series.
