Mike Skinner kept his career vital with a limited number of Busch Series starts in 2000 for Andy Petree Racing. Skinner, who won a 1999 Busch race at Atlanta Motor Speedway for owner David Ridling, started eight races while running a full season in Winston Cup for Richard Childress and scored a top-5 and two top-10 finishes.

Skinner posted a season best third place finish at Phoenix and earned his second career Busch Series pole at the second Dover event. He led once for 36 laps at Dover.

Skinner, the 1995 Craftsman Truck Series champion, was so enthused about the competitiveness of Petree's equipment he hoped to be able to continue a limited program in 2001.
