Michael Waltrip's saving grace in terms of competitive racing again came from his self-owned Busch Series team in 2000. Waltrip, who will continue his program with his No. 99 Chevrolets in 2001, started 12 races totaling two top-5 and four top-10 finishes while also running a full season in Winston Cup with Ultra Motorsports.

Waltrip, who has competed in the Busch Series on a limited basis since 1988, earned a season best second place finish at Michigan and started a season best fourth at Bristol. He led two races for a total of 19 laps.

The Owensboro, Ky., driver tasted his first success in the Goody's Dash Series, winning its championship in 1983. Since then, he has been competitive in the Busch Series with eight wins and 11 poles, even though a first Winston Cup win has been elusive.
