Ricky Hendrick continued to establish a foundation for his growing stock car career in 2000, making 11 starts and grabbing his career best finish, a fifth at Nashville Speedway USA. In 2001, Hendrick will continue to build for the future at Hendrick Motorsports, competing in a mixed bag of Busch Series and ARCA RE/MAX Series events while doing the full Craftsman Truck Series schedule.
Hendrick scored his stunning fifth place run in his first Busch race of the season, but it was not his only highlight. He closed his season with starting positions of a career best third at Lowe's Motor Speedway, seventh at Rockingham and 12th at Homestead.
While he earned his lumps with five DNFs in his 11 starts, including a head injury suffered at Rockingham that forced him to miss his CTS finale at California Speedway, Hendrick banked a lot of good dividends to use in the future. He will drive the No. 24 GMAC Chevrolet in 2001.
