Call 2000 a "down" year for Dennis Setzer. Despite his hard-fought victory at Nazareth Speedway in which he drove with a broken shoulder blade, engine woes offset some fine drives as Setzer fell to seventh in the standings driving the K-Automotive Dodges. He scored eight top-10 finishes in the season's first 10 races and ended the season with eight top-5 and 16 top-10 finishes.

Setzer nearly captured the Craftsman Truck Series championship in 1999, his first full season on tour. Despite finishing 34th and last in the Miami opener, Setzer went into the finale just 25 points off the lead, when an early accident ended the title bid. Setzer gave Dodge its first superspeedway victory in June at Texas Motor Speedway and that victory was followed by wins at Nashville Speedway USA and New Hampshire International Speedway.

Setzer posted 19 top-10 finishes in 1999, by far the best by a Dodge driver on the series. In 2001 he will have to get used to driving Chevrolets as he has switched to Morgan-Dollar Motorsports. The North Carolina native proved early he had what it takes to succeed in the "tough trucks," finishing second, to eventual champion Mike Skinner, in his first series start on July 1, 1995 at The Milwaukee Mile. Setzer formerly competed in the Busch Series, where he won two races and a Bud Pole and more than $700,000. His first Busch win came in 1994 at South Boston (Va.) Speedway, a venue joining the NCTS in 2001.
