Randy MacDonald, after three seasons of trying, finally got a shot at a full schedule of racing in 2000. A sixth-place finish in the Daytona 250 was the centerpiece of a year in which MacDonald fashioned a ranking of 19th in the NCTS point standings. MacDonald will try to scramble on again in 2001, running his family owned No. 72 Chevrolets.
In previous years, MacDonald had been the go-to guy for a number of owners -- up to three in each of the past three seasons. MacDonald, an accomplished race car technician in addition to his driving skills, qualified third at Martinsville Speedway in 1999. The 1998 season saw MacDonald post his previous best NCTS effort, an eighth-place at Flemington Speedway.
A native of Ontario, Canada, MacDonald and his family moved south to North Carolina in the mid-1990s. He has competed in four Winston Cup Series events. The diverse racer was the 1993 American Speed Association Rookie of the Year. That followed his championship in the old ACT series in 1990. MacDonald enjoys spending time with his family and, during winter months, playing ice hockey.
