Rob Morgan will step back in 2001 to an undetermined limited schedule for his family-owned Morgan-Dollar Motorsports Chevrolet team. The move came after the former sports car racer stepped up the pace in qualifying in 2000 with five starts among the top-10, including an outside pole at Texas Motor Speedway.
Morgan, who was married last fall, ended up 18th in the point standings with one top-10 finish. He found the new Kentucky Speedway to his liking with an eighth-place run, his first top-10 on an oval venue. He finished among the top-20 in points for the second time. In 1999, Morgan scored his first series top-5 finish at Heartland Park Topeka.
Morgan comes from a road racing background. His father, Charles, is a former IMSA World Sports Car champion and started his first CTS event in 2000. The younger Morgan began his professional road racing career in 1992. In 1995, he won IMSA's Exxon Supreme GTO race at Mosport, Canada, the 100th triumph in the series for Oldsmobile. Morgan finished second overall in the 1997 Rolex 24 At Daytona, driving a Ferrari 333SP.
