The 2000 season was one of highs and lows for Ricky Sanders, who has a varied career in stock cars. The freshman driver attempted to qualify for 10 events, with three different teams, and started five. Thus, he ended up 35th in the standings.
He finished a respectable 22nd at Kentucky Speedway and, after his Jim Murphy-owned team was merged with that of Mike Albernaz, ran a solid 16th in the second event at Texas Motor Speedway. In 2001, Albernaz, a veteran mechanic, will not be involved with the team, which still uses No. 27 for its Fords.
Sanders, whose father, Ronnie Sanders, competed as an independent on the Winston Cup Series and throughout the Southeast in a number of divisions, began his competitive career in 1984. He has competed in Late Models, the old NASCAR Sportsman Division and with the Automobile Racing Club of America in the RE/MAX Series. Sanders enjoys riding jet skis when not behind the wheel of his CTS Ford.
