Randy Tolsma ended a nearly three-season victory drought in 2000 when he took the checkered flag at Nashville Speedway USA in August, and few victories all season were more popular. It was the high point for the open-wheel veteran in a year that was his most successful in the Craftsman Truck Series. The veteran driver scrapped from a low of 16th to snag eighth place in the final point standings.
Only a number of late season DNFs last season kept Tolsma, 34, from making a late run at the top-5 in the point standings in his final season for owner David Hodson's Impact Motorsports. The consistent native of Meridian, Idaho, had two second and two third place finishes among his 15 top-10 runs.
Tolsma, whose only other CTS victory came in 1997 at Mesa Marin Raceway, hopes his union with staunch team owners Ed and Sam Rensi, two business-oriented partners, pays off for his e-Link Chevrolet team in 2001. Tolsma comes from an open-wheel racing background, completing his Indianapolis 500 rookie test in 1996. He won more than 100 times in kart competition.
