Terry Cook made a jump in 2000, leaving the only team he'd ever driven for in the Craftsman Truck Series. The season was a slight disappointment that ended with Cook finishing 14th. The opening race saw Cook finish fourth at Daytona International Speedway -- in fact, the first four races saw Cook place three times in the top-10 and run as high as fourth in the standings.

Things leveled off after that, although Cook managed to post nine top-10 runs and finish a career best 14th in series points. Cook couldn't back up his first series victory in 1999 but he improved his points finish significantly. A late-season surge, which included a pair of top-10 finishes at Las Vegas and Fort Worth, boosted Cook into the top-15 for the first time in his NCTS career. And he ended the season with a seventh place finish in his first race for K-Automotive, his current team.

August 1998 was a breakthrough month for Cook, who hadn't finished higher than 12th in 33 starts entering the Stevens Beil Genuine Car Parts 200 at Flemington (N.J.) Speedway. At Flemington, where Cook posted his first NCTS Bud Pole in 1997, he held off the final laps charge of Ron Hornaday to score his first series victory. Cook competed successfully in Late Model stock cars prior to joining the NCTS and won track championships at Sandusky, Ohio and Flat Rock Mich.
