Kevin Lepage took over the Ultra Motorsports ride in early October 2001.
The Shelburne, Vt., native has over 100 career Winston Cup starts, including 79 races for Jack Roush over a three-year period from 1998-2000, running a career-best fifth at Texas Motor Speedway and seventh in the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway last season. Heading into the 2001 season, Lepage had five career top-10 finishes.
Lepage made 10 Busch Series starts in 2000 as well, then decided to start his own Busch program, with plans to run a limited number of races in the No. 71 Chevrolet in 2001.
In the Busch Series, Lepage finished a season-best third at Atlanta, one of two top-10s he scored. He started eighth at Charlotte. Lepage, who has two career Busch Series victories, was consistent enough in his short log of races to average a 20th place start and an 18th place finish.
Lepage raced in the Northeast for more than 14 years in a variety of Late Model stock car venues before he made a move south. He finished second in the 1998 Winston Cup Rookie of the Year race.
