The Ironman of NASCAR Winston Cup competition, Terry Labonte has the distinction of holding the record for the longest time between NASCAR Winston Cup championships. Another tidbit from those championships, earned in 1984 and 1996, is that Labonte had only two victories but 24 Top-10 finishes each season. He has earned 21 NASCAR Winston Cup victories and 26 NASCAR Winston Cup pole positions during his record 655 consecutive NASCAR Winston Cup starts, a streak that ended at Indianapolis in 2000. Labonte had qualified for every NASCAR Winston Cup event since 1979, his first full season on the circuit. He finished fourth in his first NASCAR Winston Cup start (1978 Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway). Terry and his brother Bobby Labonte, are the only brothers to win Winston Cup championships (Bobby also won the 1991 Busch Series championship).
