    2001 Recap
Jeff Gordon won a series-high six races and clinched his fourth Winston Cup championship. Tony Stewart rallied to finish the season second in the final standings.

The season will forever be remembered for the death of Dale Earnhardt at the Daytona 500 in February, but Kevin Harvick emerged to win two races and the Rookie of the Year title. Harvick was one of five first-time winners as 19 different drivers -- a modern-era record -- won races in the Winston Cup Series.
