There’s something special about an inaugural race … ask any NASCAR Busch Series driver.
The inaugural race of the NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division will run at Kansas Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 29. The event will be paired with the running of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series a day later.
Though the tri-oval track design is not unique to Kansas Speedway, this one has a slight difference in the banking. Kansas Speedway is banked 15 degrees in the turns, 10.4 degrees in the front stretch and 5 degrees on the backstretch.
The ARCA RE/MAX Series and NASCAR's Winston West Series will debut during Kansas Speedway's inaugural event in a double-header June 2. Both series are exciting and diverse racing outlets for some of the biggest names in stock car racing. NASCAR Winston West Series drivers over the past years have included NASCAR Winston Cup Series regulars Derrike Cope and Chad Little and NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division competitors Kevin Harvick and Ron Hornaday. ARCA RE/MAX drivers have included NASCAR Winston Cup Series greats Benny Parsons, Davey Allison, Jeremy Mayfield and Ken Schrader.
Kansas Speedway boasts great views from every seat and easy access in and out of the 1 ˝ -mile, state-of-the-art facility. The track is situated off two major interstates and five roads in the heart of Wyandotte County, Kansas. Preliminary traffic studies show post-race egress will take less than 3 ˝ hours, another industry milestone, speedway officials said.
The fan-friendly design of the track and growing interest for motorsports entertainment in the Midwest have propelled Kansas Speedway to set industry records for inaugural season ticket sales.
When season tickets went on sale worldwide Aug. 21, the Kansas Speedway ticket office was flooded with requests from every state and several countries. More than 60,000 phone calls were tracked on Kansas Speedway’s switchboards and nearly 300,000 hits were tracked on the speedway’s Web site in the first eight hours of sales alone.
